HUMAN DEVELOPMENT

Our lines of investigation in this area are:

  • Nourishing security
  • Population and resources
  • The woman’s role in the development

investigacion.desarrollo.jpgThe GESPLAN group seeks to have a direct implication in the development: in the fight against poverty, inequality and world-wide nourishing insecurity and in the attainment of the Objectives of Development of the Millennium.

The solution to these problems implies a challenge that can only be reached from a collective effort and a personal commitment. The public-private alliances, the university and the civil society, in general from both north and south, face the challenge to promote new initiatives, networks, methodologies and approaches that help to revert the present tendencies. With this objective, in the last years GESPLAN has actively collaborated with several international organisms of development: the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization (the FAO), the International Center of the Papa of Peru (ICP), the Spanish Agency for the Development and Cooperation (SADC), Foundation ETEA of Development and Cooperation, Action Against Starvation (AAS) and the Professorship Club of Rome. In this way, lines of collaboration with departments of Central American Universities linked with the Cooperation to the Development have been established.

As result of this collaboration have been the execution and beginning of Projects of Development in the American Latin scope, in countries such asf32.jpg Honduras, Nicaragua and Peru. Likewise, the collaboration with the different international organisms for the development has given rise to the celebration of courses and conferences about starvation and human development in which different professionals from the development share their lived through experience and their professional knowledge from an interdisciplinary perspective.

REDUCTION OF THE VULNERABILITY OF THE SMALL COFFEE PRODUCERS BEFORE THE CRISIS OF NOURISHING SECURITY (CENTRAL AMERICA)

The world-wide market of coffee has been submerged for several years in a deep crisis, whose more visible characteristic is the collapse of the prices in the international markets, with the consequent effect in the producing countries and their societies. In Central America, the crisis of coffee was added to a little flattering regional economic panorama, characterized by the weakening of the external demand, especially by the deceleration of North American economy and the constant deterioration of the terms of the interchange. In the macroeconomic scope, Central American coffee exports have fallen in a continuous way. The collapse of coffee exports contributed to deepen the weak evolution of external sales in general.
